This is in continuation of my previous post on Pistachio Crackers. The same experiment also resulted in herbs based whole wheat crackers, in alignment of my requirement for healthy winter snacks. Do note that these whole wheat herb crackers are my regular item as I make them often. These herbs crackers are quite easy peasy, healthy and quick to prepare. I prefer to make crackers with whole wheat flour, so that I could afford to snack in an healthy, guilt-free way 🙂
These whole wheat crackers also help me get some quality evening snack to my little fussy angel who simply loves them. I make different shapes/sizes for her and she is happy to have them (yes, I know the shapes may appeal more to her). So let’s start baking !
The ingredients for making whole wheat Herbs Crackers are :
1. Whole Wheat Flour : 1 cup
2. Mixed Italian herb : 1 tsp (or your choice of herb)
3. Dried basil : 1 tsp (or your choice of herb)
4. Clarified butter (Ghee) : 2 Tbsp
5. Salt : to taste
Take a big bowl. Add all the ingredients and mix them well with hands. Use sufficient water to knead a soft dough. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10 minutes.
Preheat the oven for 10-15 minutes on 200°C.
Roll out the dough in a large circle. Use cookie cutters to make different shapes and cut it. Prick all the crackers with a fork.
Grease a baking tray with oil/clarified butter(ghee). Place the raw crackers on the greased baking tray and bake them for 12-15 minutes on 180°C till they become light brown in colour.
Take out the baking tray, remove the crackers from the tray and let them cool for some time. Your healthy, savoury whole wheat herb crackers are ready to be served !
You can enjoy these whole wheat herbs biscuits with ketchup, mayonnaise or with tea/coffee. You can also store them in an air-tight container for 3-4 weeks.
Insider Tips / Finer Points :
- You may add one handful fresh herbs of your choice like basil, for more flavour.
- You may also add your choice of herb likes rosemary, thyme, parsley etc., and enjoy multi-flavoured crackers.
