I have always fallen back on typical Indian snacks like samosa, kachori, chat, fritters etc., when I wanted the taste and had the time to prepare. Around a month back on one evening when the London weather suddenly turned rainy, it made me crave for some new snack. I wanted a snack which was spicy, tangy but not the regular Indian snacks. The curiosity in me arose and, then came to my mind – McDonald’s Veg Pizza McPuff.
It is a crispy pasties filled up with lots of vegetables, pizza or pasta sauce and cheese.
I gave a palatable surprise to my dear hubby when he came back home from office that evening. As he is a health freak, I had to make 2 versions of Pizza McPuff – a Baked one, and a deep fried one. He was very much surprised as these tasted the same as of McDonald’s.
Baked one was the healthier version, which all of us can eat without any guilt:) I am sure all you guys will love this snack.
The ingredients for the dough are :
1. All-purpose flour (Maida) : 2 cup
2. Oil: 5 Tbsp
3. Salt : 1tsp
4. Baking powder : 11/2 tsp
Mix maida, oil, salt, baking powder well and then add water very slowly to knead a tight dough. Then cover it with a wet cloth and keep it aside for half an hour.
The ingredients for the Stuffing are:
1. Onion : 1 (chopped)
2. Bell Pepper/Capsicum : 1 (chopped)
3. Garlic : 8 cloves (chopped)
4. Beans : 7-8 (chopped)
5. Carrot : 2 (chopped)
6. Peas : 1/2 cup
7. Pizza/Pasta sauce : 3 tsp
8. Lemon juice : 1 tsp
9. Tomato ketchup : 3 tsp
10. Salt : 1 tsp
11. Black pepper : 1/4 tsp
12. Chilli flakes : 1/4 tsp
13. Oregano: 1/2 tsp
14. Basil leaves dry :1/4 tsp
15. Cheese : 1/2 cup grated
16. Oil : 1 Tbsp
Take oil in a pan, add chopped onion and sauté it. Then add garlic, sauté for a min and then add chopped bell pepper, and further sauté for couple of minutes.
Now add rest of all vegetables, mix well and sauté for 3 minutes. Then add 1/2 cup of water and cook for couple of minutes.
Now add pizza/pasta sauce, tomato ketchup sauté it then add salt, black pepper, chilli flakes, oregano, basil, lemon juice. Sauté for 2 -3 min and then remove from the gas and cool it down. Keep it in the freezer for 15 min. Add grated cheese and then again keep it in the freezer for 15 min.
Finally, roll out the dough and fill the stuffing in the dough, giving it a rectangular shape. Then again put it in the freezer for 15 min. Now these are ready for deep fry or baking.
For Deep fry Pizza Macpuff :
Deep fry on the medium flame till golden brown.
For Baked Pizza Macpuff :
Preheat the oven for 15 min on 200°C. Brush these puffs with oil on both sides. Grease the baking tray, put the puffs on it and bake for 20-25 min or till golden brown; flip in between after 10 min.
